I'm Jo, and I Make Things.

I do my best work from my Atlanta home office where I’m surrounded by my kid’s finger paintings.

(The big green spidery one’s my favorite.)

i wield words like whoa

I’ve done a lot of writing for a lot of different audiences. I’ve managed blogs and email newsletters, written grant proposals, white papers, video scripts, and screenplays, designed websites, developed messaging strategies, authored a newspaper column, and more. I love audience research, and I have a real knack for making complicated, technical, or wonky information clear, concise, and useful. Whether you need help using words to explain something, make a point, or pluck a heartstring, I’m your gal.

i do soup-to-nuts instructional design

I’m trained in the ADDIE model of instructional design and have applied it to designing courses and interactive lessons for adult learners. I can research topics, create a scope and sequence along with subject matter experts, write the copy, and build interactions and graphics to support instruction. I also spent a few years in the classroom teaching and helping develop a middle grades creative writing curriculum. I develop instructional content that is clear, sticky, and tailored to the learner’s needs.

About Me

I make words and design work for people. I lead small teams and tackle big projects. I build systems that work and retool ones that don't. Most of all, I help people make and do good things.

I do communications and messaging strategy at a cause-driven creative agency. Before this, I designed mobile-first educational content at an edtech company. Before that, I did communications at a national nonprofit that fights for better, more equitable public K-12 education. And before that, I led an organization and helped design an award-winning program that runs free writing workshops at public middle schools and was recognized by First Lady Michelle Obama. I got my start leading teams as a logistics officer in the US Army for five years right after college, where I studied international relations and environmental engineering.

All along the way, I’ve been making good things.
